Savior of the Idiots Provides Redemption

The disciples of Johnny Damon were rewarded as their redeemer lifted the souls of his brethren with a titanic effort in Game 7 bringing this epic Red Sox resurrection to fruition. Damon clubbed two homers and drove in 6 runs in the 10-3 dismantling of the New York Yankees ten years ago today to complete the greatest playoff comeback in Major League Baseball history.

Derek Lowe won this deciding game of the series going 6 innings and surrendered only one hit. David Ortiz added another homer to complete his series MVP effort and Mark Bellhorn sounded the death knell for the Yankees - "For whom does the bell toll; it tolls for thee, New York."

"This very night when the clock strikes 12:15 Yankee fans, the baseball gods will have disowned you 4 times."

These pics below are two of my very favorites. The top one, Newsday, is a Long Island daily paper that ran a headline feature after A-Rod hit his homer in Game 4 declaring the Yankees would win the series in a sweep. Alex is then featured very fittingly below once again in the  New York Daily News with that terrific headline. Boston finally slayed Goliath. Amen!
