Virtual Baseball & Hockey

I guess I'm really a kid at heart, and I think that helps me with my job as an elementary school teacher. That youthful exuberance not only assists me professionally, but it seeps into my leisure time as well and has led to a shameless vice I have - sports video games. I'm a veteran gamer of EA's NHL series as well and the Sega Genesis NHL titles, and I really enjoyed the Madden offerings for NFL football although my interest has now waned with this series. My favorite baseball game was actually on the PC initially. It was the MVP Baseball 2005 from EA Sports, and there was a terrific group of modders who could tailor the game for a variety of tastes. I also was an avid user of the High Heat series and the Bases Loaded series on the NES.

I didn't really get into the roster creation side until MLB The Show came around for the PS3. My favorite mode was always using classic teams as I am quite nostalgic when it comes to sports. When I finally dipped my toe into making classic teams in the world of baseball gaming with The Show on the PS3, I was hooked for good and continued roster creation for the PS4. With the release of EA's NHL 23, I have now been pulled back into creating classic hockey teams, and I am really pleased to see the dramatic improvement in this series. Now, I have moved on to the PS5 and my journey in roster creation continues and is increasingly more enjoyable as the technology improves.

Thankfully, there is a hard-working community over at Operation Sports who have provided a fabulous service to guys like me who love their old-time baseball and hockey teams. Many of these talented creators have now gravitated to our Facebook classic roster page. This group offers information and gameplay experiences for MLB The Show, NBA 2K, Madden and NHL. They also are involved in classic roster creation, and I have certainly benefited from their work in creating my classic teams. Just recently, I was also invited to join the ATG Discord group which is another terrific forum for roster creation and collaboration. Check out my classic rosters page for more info on my classic team sets.

So, just for fun, my blog posts will feature game results, statistics, and highlights of classic baseball and hockey teams primarily featuring my beloved Bruins and Red Sox. It's a neat hobby to pit two teams together from eras gone by, different eras, or use all-time greatest teams and see how they fair out. Life's pace can be pretty hectic at times, but when I get a chance to unwind,  playing these games always brings a smile to my face.

Here's a little taste below of what you may see on here. The 1978 Yankees up against the 1978 Red Sox from my PS3 days. The goods guys win in extras at the Fens. Keep checking back for more classic games.
